My Muse
For the past two years, I've had the opportunity to photograph my friend Faneca also known by the nickname of "Fan Banks.” I didn't really get to know her until high school. We were in the same graduating class and I knew she was aspiring to become a model. The fall of 2011 I was deeply into my major of photography in college, working on creative ideas for photo shoots. Knowing that Faneca had the interest to expand her portfolio, I reached out and asked her if she was interested in working with me. It was on January 5, 2012 that I got the opportunity to work with her for the first time.
In this first shoot, my concept was to use a Halloween mask as a way for her to build a character. As I took the photographs, I looked at the playback and was amazed at how immediately she got into character. Since then, we have collaborated on numerous occasions. For each shoot that I have done with her, we have elevated ourselves to be better than before. Over time, I developed a sense of where I can find her best angles and poses within the photograph. With every new concept, Faneca is always the first person that comes to mind to realize my creative vision because she is one of those models that can do anything. I'm so grateful that she has always been there. Faneca is beautiful inside and out, and she has helped to bring out the best in me as a photographer. I hope I've done the same for her.
